The Minister of Health Planning Sindi Hawkins is currently being tested for a serious blood disorder, possibly leukemia.  Gordon Hogg just resigned as Minister of Children and Families because of the writing off of a $400,000 government debt and the investigation into a colleague placed in a senior position within the Ministry over possible fraudulent activities.  And of course, there is the ongoing saga of the RCMP raids on the legislature, executed on the offices of Finance Minister Gary Collins and Transportation Minister Judith Reid.

The Premier has not shuffled the cabinet since coming to office almost three years ago.  Thus, the anticipated changes will be crucial to the BC Liberals' electoral fortunes, as they will enshrine the individuals which will lead the government into the next election, already set for May 17, 2005.

With the agenda of cuts on the horizon for the coming year, a shaky BC Rail deal that could jeopardize a balanced budget, and a tough year of scrutiny ahead after a brutally scandalous first month of 2004, finding a good mix of capable and willing candidates for cabinet will be a challenge.
