What's New

March 27, 2007 - Here is yet another example of how the NDP has completely lost its way (and I can confidently use the following example because of the formalized linkages between the provincial and federal wings of the party):

British Columbia NDP MLA Guy Gentner is attacking the Liberal government led by Gordon Campbell because of the fact that credit card expenses demonstrate "a penchant for pizza that's at big fat odds with Premier Gordon Campbell's call for healthy eating."

First of all, I'm sure that the constituents of Delta North are pleased to hear that their representative in the legislature spends his time retrieving and adding up receipts for pizza.

Secondly, if this is the best that the NDP can come up for a criticism of the current government, then party members (never mind outsiders like myself) should be demanding some kind of leadership and/or direction.

A conversation the other day with a friend who often shared my initial hesitations to Gordon Campbell quite nicely summed up the state of affairs in this province: Campbell has really matured as a leader, and effectively moderated his government after taking some brutal but necessary financial measures upon winning office.

Don't get me wrong...I have always advocated for a strong, relevant NDP (both provincially and federally) to advance forgotten policies and points of view. Thus, I find it to be such a disappointment that on both fronts, the party has become a mere footnote regarding the most important issues of the day.
