What's New

March 16, 2007 - Holy reversal of roles, Batman! If the left thinks that Stephen Harper and his lieutenant Jim Flaherty would come within 100 kilometres of the word deficit, then it is no wonder that many are now touting the death of the NDP for a lack of focus and/or purpose.

Don't give me this "nuance between the word in French and the word in English" type of bullshit - les yeux brides has the same connotation in both languages, and no matter how you slice it, it is an offensive term. Andre Boisclair then refers to the groups he is referring to as "those people"??? But wait...there's more:

""When I was in Boston, where I spent a year, I was surprised to see that on campus about one-third of the students doing their bachelor's degrees had slanting eyes.

These are not people going to work in sweatshops. They are people who will later become engineers and managers who create richness.
"

Well thanks for clearing that up, Boisclair, parce que quand je regarde les gens de l'héritage asiatique, je pense immédiatement à ceci.

What an idiot.

With numbers like these, I continue to hold true to my January 4th prediction that no spring election will be called. No one wants one - particularly the electorate.

So I don't get accused of misquoting, I provide a link to Jason Cherniak's latest rant. Now that I have done that, let me just say that I find that the post is naive beyond belief:

"Perhaps this takes off some hard edges in Harper's public image, but does it not also eat away at his best asset to this point? Without the credibility of being able to say that he makes decisions and sticks to them, what does Stephen Harper have left? Instead of a strong Tory, Harper is just a weak, mean-spirited Liberal."

If the Liberal party starts to spin that Harper is Liberal-lite, you might as well stick a fork in the campaign, because it is done. People don't view Harper as mean-spirited, and thus I challenge Jason to come up with a way to get the media and the public to care that the PM has cut and is now reintroducing the same initiatives.

If he accepts the challenge, it will be an effort in futility.

This is an appointment that is positive on so many different levels. Martha Hall Findlay is really headed to be a political superstar - and one that has more than enough substance to keep her interesting and engaging for years to come.

That's it for now. Might be back later, might not.
