December 15, 2006 - A Happy Hanukkah to everyone, especially my father, who I am upset I cannot be with back in Vancouver. I love you very much Dad. A bunch of points to make this morning: 10 weeks or under - that is what we could be looking at as a countdown to an election call. I think that this strategy is smart, as long as the opposition parties can find a reasonable issue to bring down the government with. Otherwise, the country is going to be treated to a huge spending shopping list from the Tories, who are flush with a $7.2 billion surplus at the very minimum. From NB Politico comes another OUCH that I missed for Bernard Lord: a poll out the day before he announced his resignation: Politics is about timing and risk, and Lord's lack of either has taken a once bright political career and flushed it down the toilet. This is a request to the Vancouver Centre (my home riding) riding executive to get their act together. Apparently, there was a nomination meeting held on November 25 (on the eve of the leadership convention) for which I and many other members never received notice for. Hedy Fry was the only nominee, and from what I hear, there was about a dozen people in attendence. There is also some kind of Christmas party that the riding association is apparently holding on Sunday, something else that I never got notice of. The reader who sent me this information is now classifying Vancouver Centre as a "rotten borough," and in light of Hedy's secret coronation (What are you scared of? No one is going to challenge you!), I have a hard time disagreeing with him. One simple question: Are Pierre Bourque's headlines for sale? I mean, he had Stéphane Dion's citizenship story up for many more days than the mainstream media paid attention, and now has posted a picture of Dion "jaywalking," demonstrating that Mr. Dion prefers to walk rather than take a driver everywhere he goes? The wording of Mr. Bourque's links are often brutal to those he doesn't like, so I am curious as to whether the sentiments directed towards specific individuals is related to the amount certain parties pay him on an ongoing basis. Best comment left at the "Rocky Balboa" YouTube.com trailer page: "Rocky Balboa's next opponent...erectile dysfunction and memory loss." I think the photo says it all. That's it for now. It is my last day in Toronto, so I'm going to try and enjoy. Mandy, if you're back in town, give me a call.
